70s night fundraiser for projects in Africa

Nigel, Kieran and Gerry of the Last Friday Collective will be singing a few numbers tonight (Fri 8 May 2009) in the Castletroy Park Hotel as part of a fundraiser for aid projects in Africa.

Important details

  • Venue: the Carlton Castletroy Hotel
  • Kick-off: 9.30pm, Friday 8 May 2009
  • Tickets: €10 on the door, also available from Ann Hickey, Mary McGarry, Mai McGurk, Lisa Hickey and Leo Kirby
  • 70s dress is optional but encouraged, prizes for best outfits

The further information I have is second-hand, but should paint a picture of what this event is about.

Ten UL students have been working their socks off all year to raise funds for air fares, living expenses, and money to finance the work they are going to complete this summer in Africa. As always, UL staff and the wider community have been very supportive and generous. To support their efforts we are having a fundraiser in the Carlton Castletroy Hotel at 9.30 pm this evening.

The entertainment will be provided by people well known to the UL community:

  • Leo Kirby as MC and DJ;
  • The Last Friday (Feat. Nigel Coleman, Kieran O’Dea and Gerry Mulvenna)
  • Tom Byrnes – a member of the famous Byrnes musical family;
  • Linda Hickey, sister of Lisa from KBS and also a Volunteer;
  • Traditional African Dance by the Irish Ugandan Community.

Also present will be Minister of State Peter Power and Honorary Consolar of Uganda Sylvia Katete.

There are many prizes to be won including two tickets for Elton John and a Drinks Hamper.
Tickets are only €10 and are available at the door or can be purchased from Ann Hickey, Mary McGarry, Mai McGurk, Lisa Hickey and Leo Kirby.

A good night will be had and we hope to meet you there.

Richie
